Dental Implants in Mount Vernon, WA
Implants are titanium posts that act as an artificial root when natural ones are not present. They are placed when a tooth or teeth are missing. Implants are the closest thing to having your own teeth. They help preserve bone loss and can improve your appearance, speech, and self-esteem.
Why implants?
The advantage to having a dental implant is that it can be used to replace one tooth, or many teeth depending on your needs. Implants can also be used as an anchor for a permanent denture.
An implant does not involve other teeth in your mouth to replace a missing tooth, which increases the overall health of your mouth. In contrast, a bridge relies on the adjacent teeth to provide support.
Implant Treatment
If you and Dr. Fernandez decide that an implant is the right choice to meet your tooth-replacement needs, a referral to an oral surgeon or prosthodontist will be given to you for a consultation. At the consultation, the specialist will determine what the timeframe will be for your particular situation in regards to extraction of teeth, implant placement, and healing time.
After the implant has been placed, there will be healing time to integrate the implant into your bone. Typically, this takes from four to six months. When adequate healing has taken place, we will receive correspondence from your specialist indicating that it is time to complete the implant treatment by placing a crown onto your implant.
